Eghersis
is a transliteration of the Greek word, εγερσις, which has the meaning of being roused to life. Thus, it is my hope that what you find on this blog will empower, arouse, stimulate, excite, and animate your life--your soul, your spirit--the wholeness of who you are.

Oh, JOY! Good News

Today, I gleaned these words from Isaiah 61 verse 1:

“He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed.”

I like good news. There is something about it that brightens the day. It reassures the heart. It changes a mood. It awakens the spirit. It refreshes the soul. It cheers, encourages, and comforts.

What would be “good news” for the oppressed? What kind of news would be good for those who suffer under the weight of some sorrow or some unjust encumbrance?

Freedom comes to mind. Freedom from that pressed down feeling, freedom from the heaviness that threatens to crush the spirit. It would be freedom that lightens and lifts the burden that weighs on the heart, that confuses the mind, that saps the strength and weakens the spirit. It would be freedom that gives a reason to rejoice and celebrate. That kind of freedom would be good news.

Oh, JOY! Good news.

I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars.

Lisa,

I find it interesting that a nation cannot see 'freedom' without the presence of military enforcement. How can oppression be lifted and true freedom felt if you are still being dictated to by someone with guns behind them? I, too, long for Good News and wish it to the world while I attempt it in my own neighborhood.

Peace,
Terri
