Eghersis
is a transliteration of the Greek word, εγερσις, which has the meaning of being roused to life. Thus, it is my hope that what you find on this blog will empower, arouse, stimulate, excite, and animate your life--your soul, your spirit--the wholeness of who you are.

The Great Breath

In yesterday's Lenten reading in From Fear to Love, Nouwen says that the Holy Spirit is God's breath. This image captures my imagination, and I see God rhythmically breathing on the world. I hear the in and the out of the breathing. I feel the movement of this breath under my feet, over my hands, around my head, within my heart.

And I can imagine myself, with each breath, breathing in the breath of God and breathing it back out again onto those around me. I sense the breath of God mingling with my own breath, and we are united as one in the breath. Connected. God and I breathing together as one.

The breath of God gives life to my soul and to my spirit. This is the first breath. It is the breath breathed into Adam and Eve. It is the first breath of the animated soul. It is the breath that keeps me spiritually alive. It is the breath that whispers the nearness of the Great Presence that fills the universe.

It is the Great Breath that calls me to breath along with the breath of God.

I have pondered the breath of life given to Adam. My realization was that it was also mine. One breath, and billions of souls later it still exists.
