Eghersis
is a transliteration of the Greek word, εγερσις, which has the meaning of being roused to life. Thus, it is my hope that what you find on this blog will empower, arouse, stimulate, excite, and animate your life--your soul, your spirit--the wholeness of who you are.

Forty Words for Forty Days: Day 19-Friend

Friend is a word that makes me think of the riddle over the gateway to the mines of Moria in Lord of the Rings. “Speak friend and enter.” The word friend invites and welcomes. It is a word that is hospitable. It is a joining word, a companionable word, a good company word, a feel-comfortable word.

Today, I spent time with two friends. We shared tea and snacks together. Part of our conversation was easy and light; we laughed together. Part of our conversation was difficult; we wept together.

We listened. We talked. We welcomed each other and joined company with one another. We were comfortable with the easy and the difficult. We disagreed. We compromised. We were companions to each other. We spoke friend to one another and entered the deep realm of hospitality. My friends are good company.

Here is my reflective question for the day: “How has friend been good company for you?”

Friend is an appropriate word for me to ponder today - I managed to forget a luncheon appointment yesterday with a very dear friend. She called me an hour after our appointed date and asked, of course, "if I was all right?" Oh, to say how disappointed I was with myself would be putting it mildly. She's giving me another chance today and I won't forget this one, but it really physically pained me to have been so careless in overlooking the time that I had anticipated with joy! Friends are very important to me and I've found a few lately that just took MY reaching out to them to seal the bond of friendship.....there's a reflection in that thought, I think:)
